A new era of WiFi technology is approaching. WiFi 7 promises faster speeds, improved responsiveness, and greater reliability. But, when is the WiFi 7 release date?
Unfortunately, the real answer is we don’t know. All is not lost, though. We can still make a prediction on when we think this may be, using hints from the developers.
So if you’re interested, keep reading as we explore the potential WiFi 7 release date window and expected specs.
WiFi 7 release date window (estimate)
There is no specific date yet for when WiFi 7 will be released. The developers from the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) have been working hard to improve the current WiFi technology, building upon WiFi 6.
At the moment, WiFi 7 is still in development as you can see on their website. Sadly, it seems as though the IEEE has experienced some delays.
The final approval stage has now been pushed back from May to December of next year. So, the earliest date WiFi 7 could be launched is December 2024.
Realistically, it will probably be at the beginning of 2025. By following previous trends, we then expect WiFi 7 to actually reach consumers many months after.
Interestingly, WiFi 7 routers have already come on sale, so you can bag yourself a compatible device ahead of its official launch.
WiFi 7 specs and performance
WiFi 7 or 802.11be officially, is the next-generation WiFi technology that builds upon the foundation of WiFi 6 and WiFi 6E. It promises significantly faster speeds, being able to handle more data in each transmission. Its 320 MHz channels are double the size of other past WiFi generations.
If you’re a keen streamer you’ll be happy to hear that WiFi 7 will be able to accommodate 8K video and low-latency extended reality (XR) apps. Perfect for both gaming and commercial uses.
With WiFi 7, you’re also going to get 4K QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation). This is an upgrade from WiFi 6 and 6E. It ensures that each signal can pack and embed larger amounts of data compared to the 1K QAM on the previous generation.
As you would expect, WiFi 7 will be backwards compatible with past generations such as WiFI 6E, WiFi 6, and WiFi 5. So even if you purchase a new WiFi 7 router, all your current wireless devices will work perfectly fine.
Is there going to be a Wi-Fi 7?
Yes, WiFi 7 is currently in development. Although, you’re going to have to wait a while before you actually see this technology become live.
Is Wi-Fi 7 the fastest?
Once released, WiFi 7 will be the fastest WiFi technology out. It is expected to be 4.8 times faster than WiFi 6.
