While the standard doorbell will continue to work with the internet down, and an old-fashioned doorbell will work even in a power cut, the Ring Doorbell needs a Wi-Fi connection to perform.
If you’ve changed your Wi-Fi provider, then you will need to reconnect your Ring Doorbell to access the camera feed.
How To Change The Wi-Fi On A Ring Doorbell
If you’ve recently changed your Wi-Fi network, or you’re experiencing connection issues and have a Wi-Fi back-up, then you will need to reconnect your Ring Doorbell.
To change the Wi-Fi on your Ring Doorbell, follow these steps:

Open The Ring App
On your phone, open the Ring app.

Select The Menu
Select the Menu, which is the icon with three lines found in the top-left corner of the app.

Click On Device
Click on Devices, and then select your Ring Doorbell from the list.

Change Wi-Fi Network
Select Device Health, and then select Change Wi-Fi Network.
You will now need to stand next to your Ring Doorbell, to put it into set-up mode. This cannot be achieved remotely.

Putting The Ring Doorbell Into Set-Up Mode
The method for putting the Ring Doorbell into set-up mode will vary depending on the exact model you own. When the doorbell is in set-up mode, there will be a spinning light on the front of the doorbell, and the app will allow you to continue with the Wi-Fi change.
- To put a Ring Video Doorbell into set-up mode, remove the doorbell from the mounting bracket. On the back of the doorbell is an orange button. Press the button, but don’t hold it down.
- To put a Ring Doorbell 2, 3, 3 Plus, or Elite into set-up mode, remove the doorbell faceplate. On the front of the device is a black button. Press the button, but don’t hold it down.
- To put a Ring Doorbell Pro into set-up mode, press the button located on the right side of the doorbell. Don’t hold the button down.

On the Ring app, select your chosen Wi-Fi network.
Enter your Wi-Fi password, and select Continue. You may need to change your Wi-Fi password before this step, as the Ring Doorbell won’t accept special characters.
Your Ring Doorbell should now automatically connect to your preferred Wi-Fi network.
If you can’t get your Ring Doorbell into set-up mode, then you may need to force a hard reset. To do this, hold down the set-up button for over 30 seconds. Wait for the doorbell to restart. This may take over five minutes.
A hard reset will erase all the current settings on your Ring Doorbell, so only do it if completely necessary.
This method can be used to connect the Ring Doorbell to your Wi-Fi hotspot in a power cut. You may also need to connect this way if the Ring Doorbell loses connection, and is failing to reconnect to the Wi-Fi.
An Alternative Method For Changing The Wi-Fi On Your Ring Doorbell
Changing the Wi-Fi on your Ring Doorbell can be complex, but there is a slightly simpler solution:

Change The Wi-Fi Network SSID Name
When setting up your new network, change the Wi-Fi Network SSID name to the name of your previous Wi-Fi network.

Connect To The New Wi-Fi Network
Your Ring Doorbell should now automatically connect to the new Wi-Fi network.
If this option doesn’t work, you will need to manually change the Wi-Fi using the previous method.
