There’s nothing worse than getting a couple of hours into a gaming session only to be halted by an unfortunate error code. In this guide, we’re showing you quickly and easily how to fix the CE-11773-6 error code on PS5, and fortunately, it seems to be fairly straightforward.
It’s worth understanding exactly what the CE-117773-6 error code is and why it appears. Simply put, you may see this message on screen when there’s a problem with PlayStation Network and this can either be client side (happening just to you) or indicate a system-wide outage. Sometimes you may be hit with this error when trying to download or launch a new game as the PSN servers may be down, too. Note: If the servers are down and it’s a wider issue, the best course of action is to sit tight and wait for it to resolve.

Check the status of the PlayStation Network servers
The most important thing you can do to try to fix error code CE-117773-6 is to check PlayStation Network and from there you can assess which steps are next. You can check the status of the servers here which goes in-depth with details about account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Store. If there are problems then this will be represented by red lights instead of green ones and look something like this:
Clicking through the details will give you more information about the affected platforms and affected services as well as the time when either Sony or its users first reported that issues were happening. Unfortunately, if PlayStation’s servers are down, there’s little you can do to fix things, as your PS5 console is tied to them for online connectivity.
How to fix the CE-117773-6 error code
If you’ve checked the PlayStation servers and they are in the green (everything’s working) then the issue could lay with your system or your account. Generally speaking, the CE-11773-6 error code can refer to your PlayStation Plus account which may have expired or a payment may not have gone through.
To check the status of your online account, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Payment and Subscriptions > Subscriptions.
If your PlayStation Plus account has expired then you will no longer have access to online play or the likes of the PS Plus Game Catalog, meaning any games you have previously downloaded or streamed will no longer be available to you. Fortunately, from this menu, you’ll be able to Reactivate Subscription as well as check the payment dates or cancel completely if desired.
If you have checked the servers and the status of your PlayStation Plus account and you’re still having problems then there’s one further step you can take which involves getting physical with your console. This process is a little long-winded, but according to the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit, appears to work for some people, so we recommend trying it out if all else fails.
Reset your PS5 to try and fix CE-117773-6 error code
If the servers are working and your PlayStation Plus subscription is all valid then you may be able to reset your PS5 as a last-ditch effort and it’s not too challenging to do. We’re going through step by step how to do this safely below.
- Press and hold the power button until you hear two beeps indicating it’s shutting down and not going into sleep mode
- With the console turned off, disconnect the power cable from the console and switch off at the wall
- Wait at least 20 minutes until plugging back into the wall and system and then booting up again
- Go to your PlayStation Plus Collection tab and try to add a game to your library
- Attempt to download the software onto the console
- If this works successfully then you’ve overridden the CE-117773-6 error code successfully.
If you’re still having issues after doing this then we recommend going a step further and this includes restoring licenses for the software already on the console. If this step doesn’t work then we recommend building the PS5 database and refreshing the cache. Here’s how to do that:
- Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses and then restart the PS5 console
- Go into Safe Mode by holding the power button for three seconds and hold the power button again to wake
- From there, connect the controller and boot up in the menu. The system will now work in a more basic mode
- In safe mode select the option to Rebuild Database. This will essentially defrag the console’s internal SSD
- Once these steps are done, you should now no longer encounter the CE-117773-6 error code.
Why does the CE-117773-6 happen?
You may see the CE-117773-6 error code on PS5 if the console’s having trouble connecting to the PlayStation Network servers. This could either mean it’s a problem with the servers on Sony’s side or a problem with your PlayStation Plus connection/internet.
