Unless you’ve sold your old PS4 or passed it down to a friend, you may be wondering what can you do with the old controllers. The common question arises: Can you use a PS4 controller on the PS5?
The PS5 is appealing to a lot of gamers. It is their number one gaming device and a bunch of gamers are making the transition to upgrade to the PS5. The PS5 has backward compatibility and is able to reproduce PS4 titles. For this same reason, you can use the PlayStation 4 controller on the PlayStation 5.
Unfortunately, using your old controller will mean you won’t get to benefit from all the new specs the PS5 DualSense has to offer.

How to use a PS4 Controller on PS5
Pairing the Dualshock 4 with your PlayStation 5 couldn’t be simpler. You just have to grab your controller and plug it into the console via the charging cable. Then select your user, and there you go! Once paired, you can disconnect it and play wireless with your PS4 controller on the PS5.
Note: If you try to use it for PS5 games it will pop an error saying “PS5 games can’t be played using the DUALSHOCK 4”.

What PS4 peripherals work on PS5?
You can save a lot of money not buying new PlayStation 5 peripherals and just sticking to your Playstation 4 ones. Although you’ll be losing a lot of the exciting features the new console brings with its upgrades. Such as haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a longer controller battery, to mention a few of them.

- Speciality peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games.
- The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PS5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PS5).
- The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PS4 games.
- Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.
