Over the past few weeks, we have been covering the exciting world of 3D printing in great depth here at PC Guide. You can check out our large array of articles right here in our 3D printing hub.
All of this has been to do with printing with either plastic or resin though. Very cool, but not as cool as if you could 3D print with chocolate! Now we are talking!
Many have tried to print with choccy since the advent of the 3D printer. After all, it starts off solid, melts, and then sets again so the science is kind of in the right ballpark. But when it comes to melting and setting temperatures, that’s where things have gotten tricky. It’s been possible but getting anything intricate that doesn’t look like a mess has been a bit of a Holy Grail.
Step forward the Choc Mate 2 on Kickstarter (not sure what happened to the original Choc Mate at this stage!). Now at $4800, this is not something you are going to be putting in your kitchen any time soon, but once the technology is actually in place and working just think how quickly the price of regular 3D printers has fallen over the last couple of years.
By 2025 we might be printing our own Toblerone!
Pitched by pastry chef and physics genius (can’t be many of those about) Benedikt Daschner, the project has already soared past its funding target by almost 400% with still four days to go, which means we should see it in production.
